The zoomed-out picture
Hull’s padel scene splits neatly into two buckets:
- Play today — bookable courts you can get on this week.
- On the horizon — courts about to tilt the local ecosystem.
Play today: East Coast Padel (Active+, HU5)
What it is
Hull’s first dedicated padel spot, based at Active+ on Harpings Road. Friendly for first-timers, with covered courts and lights, plus racket hire so you can try before you buy.
Where it is
Active+, Harpings Road, HU5. There’s parking and long opening hours.
How to book
They’re on Playtomic. Search the club name and grab a slot. Keep an eye out for social sessions and launch offers.
Courts & setup
Two covered doubles courts and one covered singles court. The canopies mean Yorkshire weather becomes background ambience rather than the main character.
Why beginners like it
Low faff. Rent a racket, buy balls on site, and jump into a social to learn the wall angles without feeling daft.
On the horizon: Cottingham Lawn Tennis Club (Game4Padel)
Just outside the city, Cottingham LTC is adding two covered padel courts with national operator Game4Padel. Work kicked off in spring and the venue is expected to join the booking platforms as it opens. If you’re west or north of Hull, this may become your regular.
Booking cheat sheet
- Playtomic — for East Coast Padel.
- Game4Padel / MATCHi — for Cottingham once live.
- LTA Padel finder — quick check for other nearby options when you’re travelling.
First-timer loadout (minimal faff)
- Court shoes with decent grip.
- Racket — rent first, buy later once you know what you like.
- Balls — pick up a tube on site or bring your own.
How Hull padel nights usually go
- You over-slice everything for ten minutes and the ball kisses the glass like it’s saying hello.
- You unlock “use the walls” and rallies suddenly last longer than your last attempt at Dry January.
- Someone says “one more” which quietly means three more.
- You leave plotting which mates to recruit next time. That’s the cheat code.
TL;DR
- Play now: East Coast Padel at Active+ — three covered courts, easy booking.
- Coming soon nearby: Cottingham LTC with Game4Padel — two covered courts.
- New to it: rent a racket, bring grippy shoes, start with a social.
